PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad & Tobago, August 21, 2014 — Patrick Manning and Basdeo Panday will receive Trinidad & Tobago’s highest honour, the Order of the Republic of T&T, as the country celebrates its 52nd Independence anniversary next Sunday.

Speaking at an Independence Day cocktail reception she hosted at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann’s, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar announced last night that she made the recommendation to President Anthony Carmona.

Manning served as prime minister for two terms from 1991 to 1995 and from 2004 to 2010. He is a former leader of the People’s National Movement and the Member of Parliament for San Fernando East.

Panday was prime minister from 1995 to 2001. He is a former leader of the United National Congress and was the Member of Parliament for Couva North.
