sure it may seem the same as the U.S slaughtering cows and pigs, but most whales are already endangered, and their pregnancies are longer than cows and pigs! Imagine the dent in the ecosystem if we let these people kill these animals! Japan has plenty of other food, they don't NEED whale meat! it's just wrong!

I have watched the programs on tv and read many articles on this subject. I have to say that I feel that the consumption of whale meat in Japan may go back hundreds of years. I don't think this would be any different from slaughtering cattle, pigs, or chickens for food. Having said that, I can see where the slaughter of whales could be ok. However, slaughtering to many could lead to extinction in the future. These animlas are in the ocean for a reason, to keep the ecosystem in balance. I feel that the Japanese should respect the costal whaling program. If they are allowed only a small number of whales each year, then they should obey that. This would keep extinction at bay. The fact that they say they are slaughtering them as scientific research is wrong. They need to just confess what they are really doing. Why are they making false statements on the subject? This just makes them lose the respect of the US as well as other countries.

As a student from Australia, where i see the humpback whales every year on their migration from the southern waters to Hervey Bay, I am horrified that what i thought was such a sophisticated country (japan) is killing these magnificent creatures and getting away with it. Its completely disgusting and needs to be stopped. Using these animals for food should not be the reason these whales are being slaughtered, they should not be slaughtered for any reson at all!. If the japanese stopped for one second to relise the beauty of these animals, they MIGHT think twice about how much it affects the people who regard these animals as spiritual and benefitial for ones well being. These animals are so magnifficent, and bring tears to people's eyes because they are so magestic. As far as i knew, Antarctica became a sanctuary for whales to have peace while breeding, clearly for the japanese they regard this sanctuary with contempt and continue to slaughter them in the most brutal fashion. All for having whale meat for dinner. I could understand if japan was a country where poverty was a great issue, however it is one of the richest countries in the world!
