We went to Barbados last year, having not been there for about 8 years. We noticed a significant negative change in attitude towards tourists compared with what we had been used to on our several previous trips. There was clear hostility by some. Also, the very expensive exclusive resort we were at on the west coast had no meaningful security at all, despite claims that the resort is secure. I feel that the Bajans are complacent towards the safety of tourists and unfortunately we will not go back although we like the island a lot

Terry's death has prompted me to comment on her brutal attack a couple of weeks ago. I am a frequent visitor to Barbados, and over the years, noticed a slight increase in crime on the island. I am a single woman, and take appropriate precautions to ensure my safety while on vacation. While I certainly don't blame her and her companion in the least, I have never been to Long Beach, as I understand it is not patrolled by security, and there are no life guards on duty. Ask any Bajan, and they will tell you the beach is not safe, and they would never go there, even with friends. What is wish, is that people would take away a lesson from this tragic event. Do not go to deserted areas, where you are vulnerable, use common sense, and if in doubt, ask a Bajan what they would do.
